FLIGHT NOTES
Planning your Marrakech balloon morning
How to plan the night before a sunrise balloon flight from Marrakech — what to leave clear in your diary, medina pickup quirks, and what to do with the rest of your day after you are back.
Morocco Hot Air Balloons · 15 September 2026
This is a planning note, not the booking page. Pickup times, the step-by-step morning, prices, inclusions, kit list and cancellation terms all live on the standard sunrise flight page, which is kept in sync with the live booking record. Read that first if you have not booked yet.
What follows is the practical stuff guests ask us after they have read the itinerary: how to prepare the night before, what medina pickup feels like, and how to shape the rest of the day.
The night before
You do not need a long checklist, but a few habits save friction at 5:30 am.
- Lay out warm layers you can put on in the dark. The launch field is cold before the burners run.
- Wear closed shoes to the lobby. You will not change footwear at the field.
- Keep some dirhams in cash if you want to tip the pilot or driver. Tips are not included.
- Charge your phone if you are photographing inflation or the flight. Grip it firmly in the basket.
- Send your riad name and mobile number when you book. Many riads sit on pedestrian lanes, so the driver may need to park nearby and meet you on foot.
Pickup time is confirmed when your date is set. If the wind call changes, the team usually reaches you on WhatsApp that morning. Contact is the right place for questions before you pay.
Leave the morning clear
The flight page publishes about three to four hours door to door, including transfers, inflation, roughly an hour aloft, and breakfast after landing. In practice most guests are back at their riad between about 9:00 and 10:00 am, but a later landing or a slow return through the medina can push that back.
Do not book a medina tour, a hammam slot or a transfer for 9:00 am on the same morning. If you need a hard deadline that day, plan for mid-morning or later.
The homepage morning clock and the flight page timeline show how today’s sunrise shifts the hour labels. Your confirmed pickup window is the one that matters at checkout.
Medina pickup: what guests worry about
Guests in the medina often ask whether the driver will find them. In practice:
- Be in the lobby, or at the door your riad uses for taxis, a few minutes before the agreed time.
- Expect the driver to walk in from the nearest point a car can stop. That is normal, not a missed pickup.
- Hotels outside the walls are usually a straight kerbside collection.
If you are unsure how your riad handles early taxis, ask the host the night before. They have seen this routine many times.
Expectations the itinerary does not spell out
Three things worth knowing before you go, without repeating the step-by-step on the flight page:
- You do not eat before you leave. Breakfast is on the ground after landing on the standard ride.
- You do not land where you took off. The balloon drifts with the wind; the ground crew meet the basket. That is normal ballooning.
- You do not fly over the medina. Launch is on open ground outside the city. The flight FAQs answer the medina question in full.
Travelling with children or nervous about heights? The flight FAQs are the right place. Suitability depends on age, height and confidence in the basket.
Weather buffer and date choice
Balloon flights need suitable wind and visibility. If conditions are unsafe, the team may reschedule or offer an alternative arrangement.
Two planning rules:
- Book early in your stay when your dates are fixed, so a moved morning still fits your trip.
- Read cancellation terms before you pay. The standalone sunrise ride is non-refundable once confirmed. Combo flights on this site often carry different rules. See booking terms and the policy block on the flight page.
After the balloon: the rest of your day
If you booked only the standard sunrise flight, your morning is usually done by mid-morning. A late medina lunch or an afternoon hammam is a better fit than stacking another early start.
Combos such as balloon, quad and camel or balloon and souks, half day use the same dawn block and continue after breakfast. Check that combo page for the full door-to-door length before you plan the evening.
For what to wear and what to bring, use the kit list on the flight page. For films from the field, see the gallery.
Common questions
Live pickup windows and policies sit on the FAQs and each flight page. Answers here stay short for search.
What time will I be back at my riad after a balloon flight?
Most guests are back in Marrakech by mid-morning, often between about 9:00 and 10:00 am, within the three to four hour door-to-door window on the flight page. A later landing or a slower medina return can push that back slightly.
Can I book another tour on the same morning as my balloon flight?
No, not safely. Leave the morning clear until about 10:00 am. The flight page publishes a three to four hour door-to-door window, and wind or traffic can use the buffer.
Do I need breakfast before the balloon pickup?
No. Breakfast is after landing on the standard sunrise flight, included in the price. Eat when you are back at the riad if you are still hungry.
Should I book the balloon at the start of my Marrakech stay?
Yes, if your dates are fixed. Balloon flights are weather dependent. An extra morning early in the trip is easier to use than on your last day in the city.
